Field Notes: This Sunny Evening

And on this sunny evening

As the sun rolls away, people hide from its bitter rays.

Like a cool, dark blanket, the shade wraps around them, offering solace away from the blinding evening light.

Like golden silky thread, the sun tangles itself around the stems of wine glasses and through the woven chairs left in the heat.

And as the sun rolls away, the rays slip further behind the horizon.

The smell of evening coffee lingers in the thick summer air.

The sound of clattering plates and cups shuffled out from dinner left room for empty ashtrays and glasses awaiting the night.

And as the sun rolls away, the moon arises.

And as the sun rolls away, the stars poke holes in the black night sky.

And as the sun rolls away, night has fallen once more.
